Sensei Tim Marchant
3rd Dan (Sandan)
When I was 8 years old, I had my first taster of judo. I attended a scouts open day and had the pleasure of seeing Brian Jack’s demonstrating the art. Little did I know then I would meet face to face 30 years later on the same tatami whilst taking part in a master class. In my late 20s I decided to introduce my oldest son to judo as I felt it would help his self-confidence as well as keep him fit and able to defend himself.
There was a tall girl at the club and as she was much bigger than the rest of the class, I volunteered to be her uki and soon became addicted to the art. My sons have since taken a break from judo (they will probably return) but I’ve continued to work hard and lap up as much as I could. I achieved my 1st Dan black belt and held that for about 8 years.
A year ago at the Ishin Ryu 29th anniversary dinner, I was very pleased and honoured to gain my 2nd Dan belt from Kyoshi Paddy Swallow and Soke Kevin Pell I have trained with many London club’s both Nakmas and BJA and helped run and teach at these. I now continue to further my own knowledge whilst teaching at Kanazawa judo club for the last 5 years. I enjoy helping all ages learn control & discipline, but for me it’s all about the mutual welfare and benefit… The spirit of Judo!
