Sensei Kevin Pettitt
3rd Dan (Sandan)
I first took up judo back in 1972 at the age of 9, where my late father found a club nearby and introduced me to Sensei Graham Thacker at Ramsey Judo club (Cambridgeshire ).
I trained several hours a week for 16 years and reached the grade of 1st kyu (high brown), but then also being a keen footballer I sadly ruptured my ACL and put a stop to judo.
Then in 1997 I decided to take up Karate in the style of Shotokan with Sensie Linden Huckle 4th Dan, and in November 2002 I achieved my 1st Dan which helped me start up a club of my own, based in Papworth Everard.
Whilst teaching and training i have also achieved my 2nd Dan in 2004, and then in 2022 I achieved my 3rd Dan.
Whilst nursing a broken leg in 2012 I was watching my stepson at judo and then decided to give it another go, this time under then Sensei Paddy swallow and Sensei Scott Thurston. In 2016 I was awarded my 1st Dan by Kyoshi Paddy and Sensei Scott and again in 2019 my 2nd Dan also with Kyoshi Paddy and Sensei Scott . And now since joining the BJA I now hold my 3rd Dan thanks to Renshi Scott.
And also I was presented with my 1st Dan this year in June with Asahi Dojo for Ju jutsu, thanks to Renshi Feri Takacs 5th Dan.
It’s great to be apart of a great organisation called Kanazawa Judo, with many students and great instructors.
